EADGC Tuning ...

I switched from BEADG to EADGC about six months ago. I love it. I play jazz, and when I'm playing with other people I'm usually palying upright, so my electric playing is kidna just for my own enjoyment.

So I love it for chords and solos, but when I try walking or playing a funk groove or something I often miss the low B a lot. partly because I have to play closer to the nut, and my wrist hurts from that, and also because I'm missing those low notes (not that I would usually go below the Eb in a normal situation, but that Eb comes in handy if your playing with a sax player or something).

So down the road (pretty far down the road) I think a six string is for me. It just seems like the logical place for me to wind up.

After today's successful gig, I can say that I've made the switch to CGDA tuning. I like the feel of a 4 over the feel of a 5, and tuning this way gives me flexibility in both directions. I do a lot of music in Eb so this works out great. Plus, I have a little more upper range thanks to the A. Now I just need to figure out which strings to use!
