EADGCFBb 7 String Tuning

Hello my low end Brothers and Sisters!


I'm on the hunt for a Conklin Groove Tools 7 string bass and I was thinking about string it EADGCFBb. I'm looking to do this so I can be up in the guitar range and still groove when I have to when my bass player needs to solo. Does anybody else here use this tuning and if so what gauges would be best? Is the tension too much with that light a string on such a long scale? Would the BEADGCF tuning be more than enough high end already?

I don't think so? All I would worry about would be making sure the strings don't snap or cut your fingers

Just a warning: I recently tried doing a high C (two semitones above the Bb you're considering) with a 12 gauge string and after about half an hour the tension popped the ball end off of the string. The Bb is probably significantly less tension, but I thought I'd let you know.

thats the Bb one semitone below a guitar's B string isn't it?

if a normal guitar takes approx 11-12 gauge there you'd probably want a 10 or 11 or so to counteract increased tension from the longer neck

Seems pretty feasible if you can find the right string, would you use guitar string for that?
Guitar strings are cheap so if you bought a set of 10s and used the E string for your Bb and so on through the pack that could work

The original Conklin/SIT ERB set went .025w .018p .011p for CFBb you could start there. Thread an old bass ball end onto a guitar plain string, slide it up against the guitar ball end, Rotosound and some others are long enough.
