Ear blockage.

Hey guys,

Last night I went to clean out my ear with a q-tip (I know lots of people say "ZOMG DON'T PUT THOSE IN UR EAR!!"), and I know not to go too far or anything, or push hard.

I'm pretty sure what happened is that the ball of wax that was in there got kinda smushed/packed in by the Q-tip so it made my ear really muffled and such... and I HATE that feeling. Absolutely hate it.

I did the same thing a couple years ago, so I try the warm water, olive oil and hydrogen peroxide remedies, only to end up with a nasty infection....
Next step, I go to the doc, he prescribes antibiotic drops, but there is a problem, the ear canal is swollen closed, so he has to place (shove!) a small wick into my ear to allow the drops to past the swelling into the affected area..
It could't have been been more than an 1/8" in diameter, but it felt like he was shoving a 2X4 into my ear! :bawl:
I couldn't sleep, couldn't eat and could barely talk, every time I moved my mouth it was like somebody was punching me in the jaw.:crying:
Well, I ended up with a slight hearing loss on the right side, lesson learned... at the first sign of trouble, go see the doctor, it's just a small insurance copay.

ugh, once again TB comes through for me. I've had the EXACT same problem going on with me for the past 2 days now. I can't get this earwax out, and I've tried everything. Alcohol drops, earwax removal drops, q-tips, but it's not budging. So go to the doctor right? What if you're in the bahamas right now, and going to the doctor isn't really an option? Any suggestions before I go completely crazy???

Take a hot shower, and let the water pour into the ear for a while, and upon getting out, kinda rub inside your ear with the middle knuckle of any finger. Should just pop. Works almost everytime for me.

I can "crack" my eardrums by just tensing my ears, anyone else able to do this? it really helps in deblocking my ears.

All I hear is "crunch"

I can also vibrate them so all I hear is a really hum-like windy sound really loudly. My friends think I'm nuts. Am I?

We're all a bit different, and our ears are different too. Some, like me, will get ears blocked by wax every now and again. Me, I go to the local health centre and get one of the nurses to rinse the ear using a big syringe with water (not a syringe with a needle, just a sort of nozzle). After observing chunks of wax coming out of my ear, nurse takes a look and declares it clean.

Afterwards it's like a whole new world, it all sounds fresh and sharp (almost painful in the beginning).
