Early Heavy Music

And I see that you are a fan of the first "horror punk" band! Misfits were so awesome in their early years. Heavy!
I have always liked/hated Misfits. The early stuff was nice with Glenn's beautiful voice on top of crap and electric organ. But they can barely play punk rock - to this day. They were plenty aggro but as young men didn't quite have the balls to play heavy. But Static Age is still a killer record. I remember my dad's face and what he said when I brought home the album when I was in 6th grade. "You know this crap is garbage, right?" From that moment on I was sold on Misfits and lived under a bridge with my green hair, skateboard and black lipstick the next year.

I'll concur with those who've said that Beethoven really pioneered music with the sense of drama, size and menace that we associate with heavy styles today.

"Mars, Bringer of War" from Holst's The Planets Suite continues that trend (and ups the ante) IMO:

The heaviness really ramps up around 3:20 (and goes to another level at 4:30) IMO.

Like all heavy music, some folks loved it and some folks hated it; audiences of early performances (circa 1920) were shocked by the "violence and menace".

Danzig's best band was Samhain, imo...for fast & heaviest. I was on the I Luciferi tour with them, got to rap with Howie Pyro some. Too bad corona virus grabbed him...sad.
