I don't know how large the control cavity is on a Jazzman, but you may be able to swing a U-Retro.

Yes, you could put a U-Retro in there.
I'd advise to save your self some pain and only change one thing at a time. If you change both pups and preamp at same time and don't like the sound, it's tough to know which part you don't like.
