Easy Compressor for live rig

I've read all I can find about compressors and looked over Bongomania's compressor reviews, yet I can't seem to land on what I'm looking for.

Hello. May I say: When searching for one for a particular application, reading about audio signal processors is like "dancing about architecture". Their feature set and measurements can be expressed well in words, but their sound and feel is wholly subjective in use.

Had you said that you played a number of compressor models, but none sounded and felt like what you sought, then I would advise you to play yet more.

But if I read you right, though I think the suggestions from others so far are fine, and that it's good for you to work from a list of candidate models, I say that your search won't end until you play at least one model that gets it for you; and that the only way you will find that one is to play model after model after model...

The main reason for this is that you cannot account for other players' perception, experience, instruments, playing, musical context, etc. for a useful comparison to your own.

In that sense, there are no shortcuts. You simply have to play your way to success. Good luck!

I'm surprised that the MARKBASS compresore has not been mentioned. I've been using one for several years and like it quite well. It seems very well calibrated for bass.
I also occasionally use the compressor in the Art Pro Channel II...another great piece of gear.

I've mentioned it! I like it, but a bit complex to set up and not fast at all. He asked for rackmount-gear. From what I've read so far - never tried it - as a pedal the Cali with transformer(!) comes pretty close.
If I would just need one for my bass at gigs I would definitely try the Cali. If I had a rack and had other applications like recording for the comp, I would go for the WA76.
I could kind of bet that most of those who praise the MXR, the EBS, the Diamond etc. have never tried a quality 1176 or LA-2 or LA-3 clone and prefered one of the pedals. I have stated before that I like the EBS and the Markbass, but that's another class. If someone doesn't want to spend 700,- for a comp or the money for the Cali76 with transformer, that is a good reason to buy one of the better more budget pedals.
I would consider the Boss pedal as an effect - I like the pumping somehow - but not as a quality compressor. But what sounds good to me must not sound good to everyone.
