EAW SB250 as bass cab

Recently a friend who downsized his Audio reinforcement company gave me an empty EAW SB250 cabinet, a great sub cab with 2 15” woofers , which after putting in an old pair of spare 15’s tried with my MesaD800+ and my Peavey Model 212s with Madison knight woofers and loved the results, however I know the 15”s are not going to last and I’m contemplating maybe getting two celestion 15 pulse woofers or eminence kappa a, I would like to hear some opinions on the subject before buying , thanks

You need to measure the internal dimensions of the cab to calculate the volume and port dimensions. Then you model various drivers to see which one(s) will work well. Buying super expensive drivers with high power ratings does not guarantee good results. If the cab tuning is not compatible with the drivers, you may blow the drivers with way less then their RMS power rating.

The modeling primarily predicts the drivers low frequency response and power handling. The frequency response chart on the driver spec sheet will tell you how it behaves in the mids and highs.

Eminence provides suggested cab designs for most of their pro woofers. I will attached the Kappa 15A spec sheet and cab design doc.

Thank you, I did talk to eminence and they recommended the Kappa A for the dimensions of the cab ( as opposed to the kappa C which works for cabs with smaller dimensions inside)but I’d like to know more as far as the tonal qualifies of the kappa or celestion

Keep in mind the C is a 4 ohm driver, and the A is an 8 ohm driver. A pair of A's in parallel will give you a 4 ohm cab :thumbsup:.

Both the A and C have a pretty massive peak at around 1.8kHz and the frequency response drops like a rock after that. I would be concerned about this voicing if you plan to run them full range.

If your budget allows, you might want to model the Kappalite 3015 in the cab:

You may have to modify the ports for optimum performance.
