EB-0 1960 Case Banjo Tuners

Does anyone know if the cases that came with 59-60 EB-0s were proprietary to that instrument (banjo tuners)? A standard Les Paul case (blue interior), for instance, does not have the clearance for the banjos. Looking for a correct case for a ’60 - thanks!

That was my first bass, but when I got it at the end of the decade, it came with a big hulking rectangular case that someone had built. Your post made me curious, so I poked around and found these…

I’m not sure if those are directly matching, by it would seem that that would have used a deeper, but smaller sized guitar(parlor?)case to suit the need. BTW, while it was a cool body shape, it was uninspiring to play, and I moved on to a ‘66 P, NOS that a music store had found in the basement, missing a string, and wanted to get rid of cheap, because it was “old”. Lucky me. But then, these OG EB’s are going for stupid money now, who knew?

Love me some banjo tuners. When I was in high school THE local guitar store had one of these left there by the owner and awaiting replacement banjo tuners from Gibson. Two years later the bass was still there, still waiting.

Is this what my Gibson case is for? I bought it for a Ripper (didn't have the bass with me at the time, and a TB member told me it was old/new stock for a Ripper, but it didn't fit).

I wrote up the following TB thread with pictures (scroll to beginning of thread for many pics) , but never figured out what it goes to (and I still have it, if anyone wants to buy it).

Maybe a case for a later Eb-0 or eb-3?

I've had this same question for 40 years. I have a slotted headstock EB-0- it came to me in the mid 80s with a crappy chipboard case- those tuners stick so far out to the back.

The bottom part is 2 1/2", and the top is at least 1" (see pictures), so I assume 3 1/2" deep when closed? Here are many more pictures. There are also two cushions that rest on the strings and bridge, as shown in pictures, and a neck holder that is 2 1/2" from the bottom, and 2" closer to the head (again, see pics).

Not much clearance really , the headstock basically touches the bottom of the case.

A ripper is much larger than the eb0, I checked my grabber against the eb3 case.

the grabber is thinner than the ripper , also smaller headstock, so maybe a grabber case ?

I know the 50's Gibson EB (1) violin basses came with a hardcase that accommodated the banjo tuners. The tan deluxe arched-top case like the Les Paul guitars had, with the super cool pink lining. Their claim to fame was that they were "sturdy enough to stand on". Guess what....they were. Can't imagine the cases wouldn't still be as robust in '59-'60. Good luck finding an original one though, you may have to deal with a vintage guitar shop (ugh).
