EB Cobalt Flat, great string...... but get Rust !

They’re my favorite strings. I don’t sweat and I play with clean hands always… I wash my hands a lot! I just noticed that all my cobalt sets are tarnishing, even the ones I’ve barely played. I try to keep the house humidity level comfortable year round, and that’s not gonna stop. We run a humidifier set at 60% all winter to keep sinus issues at bay. Dried out sinus passages also lead to viral infections (colds, flu, etc). So… I’ll pull out my Mothers polish and rub them all down. Hopefully, that will remove the oxidation and leave a protective coat.

We shall see.

I loved the way cobalts sound but got rid of them because of the rust issue. Had to change sets twice in the span of 5 weeks. Too bad. I use DR DDT’s now for everything. Even standard tuning and love ‘em.

ps. 60% is really high. Guitars and homes in general really shouldn’t be above 45%. For the house u risk mold growth. FYI

The house never actually gets to 60% due to the freezing temps outside sucking all the moisture out of the air. And, it’s just one small humidifier supplying the whole house. I’d say we might get to 45% on a warmer day… maybe.

Do yourself a favor. Go online and buy a small digital humidistat. They often measure temperature as well. Keep it next to your basses. You’ll get an accurate idea of the environment they live in. I did and it one of the best things I could’ve done for my basses.
