EB Cobalts VS LaBella White Nylons

To clarify, I was talking about Cobalt Flats, not rounds. Can't believe I missed that in the title!

Certainly have heard good things about the gold whites, think I may just go for those.

The music store here where I live (yes, "store" singular. Oh the joys of being a Canadian musician) doesn't even stock the cobalt flats, so I'd have to special order strings either way.

Ahh, my bad. No worries. Well, hopefully my description of the Gold Whites helps. I know neither are necessarily cheap strings to just buy both pairs and see which you like better. That said, that's what i'd do. I look at it that i'm not paying for the strings, i'm paying for the experiment (and strings).

Just be aware that they are pretty "flexible".
I normally play 105/45s and ordered the same gauge in the Whites, but the underlying string is obviously a smaller gauge. I adapted to them just fine. YMMV.

If it means anything, I main TI flats which have the notorious reputation for being "boiled noodles". I'd guess the stiffness would feel similar.

Then again, a thin flatwound should have less flexibility than a thin roundwound (under the tape of course) so maybe the nylons would feel looser? I'll report back after I compare the two.

If you go with tapes, the 60-115 set is roughly equivalent to a conventional 45-100 set under the tape, and you will have to adjust the nut slots so the strings don't bind.

The bass I'm planning to put them on has a brass nut. No way am I planning to file the thing, so I'd have to go with the lighter set.

That very well could be. Re-reading the La Bella pages it says the Copper Whites are warmer than the Whites. And it says the Gold Whites are brighter than the Copper Whites. It doesn't compare the Whites and the Gold Whites directly. But, i think your reading of it might be right.
Dammit. Now i might have to buy a set of the Whites to compare them to the Gold Whites. Yay trying new strings! (I still have a set of La Bella Motown Rounds i've been meaning to try that i haven't tried yet.)
