ebay advice

52 transactions... It's like he spent 52 days in New York City or Atlanta and didn't get mugged, so therefore NYC and Atlanta are "crime free", and since most of the citizens are not criminals, there is not much risk. *Groan*...

I've done over a thousand transactions on Ebay, and I can say from that experience that there is exactly zero difference in risk between Paypal and Postal money orders. If you haven't had somebody try to scam you on Paypal, you've been lucky.

I'm at about 400 transactions myself. I completely agree with this.

One concern is that if there's a dispute of any kind, it is much more time-consuming, expensive, and difficult to resolve.

Let's say you ship an expensive item overseas, and the buyer claims they never received it. Who do you call to fix that?

Check how recent the feedback is. If some of that positive feedback is recent, I'd say it's a legit buyer and a relatively safe transaction (barring loss/damage by carrier). If the feedback is all like over a year old, the account might have been hijacked. That happens a lot, actually. Hijackers look for accounts with high positive feedback that have been inactive for a year or so, as the account owner and the potential ripoff victims are not likely to catch on in time.

Thanks...the bidder seems legit...over 60 in the last 6 months...over 100 in the last 12 months...lots of skateboard items as well as musical items....seemed like quite a few shipped from the US.

EDIT: Which carrier is better? I'm looking at the USPS shipping calculator and it gives me a too good to be true 1st class shipping price.

Also What about customs etc?

FWIW it is an FX pedal.

Hey, While my personal account only has 70-something feedback I've been part of several different ebay related businesses and I've never had a problem with money orders (my personal account dates to 2000, but did trade on ebay well before that).

I've always accepted money orders and never had a problem. I would still do so. The only real drawback is the fact that it takes a few days for payment to arrive, rather than the instantaneous Paypal route. I would think its actually safer to have a USPSMO in hand than a paypal payment.

If I'm selling these days, I'm happy to take paypal or money orders, deal internationally...I've had really good luck with eBay and while you can run into trouble, if you're careful and informed, you'll be fine.

My personal take is to make sure that whoever you're dealing with KNOW that you're a real person and not a flea-bag dealer and be up front. (I'll offer to make special shipping arrangements, verify packaging, etc).

Check out my feedback, burningskies! is my user name.
