I've been waiting for this Bass Guitar to get released. Of all my EBMM basses, I love my Bongo's the most. I looked at the website and it said...1 for immediate shipping. ORDERED! I'll post pics up when it hits.

I don't care about the fretboard, but I backed away when I noticed the controls - only a volume and pickup blend. I thought they'd at least put the normal Bongo controls but then that's the Music Man signature, you'll really get what the artist is playing.
John Myung worked on this for 10 years to get the exact EBMM bass per his specifications. You can design your own when you reach his level.
I love the design actually. Not $3k love, but super cool all the same. Would pay maybe $1500 for a used one but that's about it. EB pricing is getting out of hand in my view, but Fender is right there with them...
Now he signed off, EBMM will issue new models every year lol
Seems awesome to me... if I needed a 6 and was shopping in that price range, I’d be all over it.

The two-tone fretboard is weird enough, but what's up with the elbow macaroni fretboard markers?
(Yeah, I know Ernie Ball calls them half-moon markers, but obviously the people at EB have never seen a half moon before.)

Ernie Ball was already high quality, and now they have stepped up their game. There is no way their basses would stay in the sub $2K range.
Have you received it yet? I'm curious to hear how it sounds, especially compared to a normal Bongo since you have that to compare to.
I don't mind the fretboard look. I love Dream Theater as a Band. I always found that Myung`s tone had no 'balls', 'life-less' but technically, he is a genius!!![This invalid link has been removed]

It is beautiful. This neck really is the 5 string neck. I have 2 5 string Bongos and this bass is a pleasure to play. The fretboard looks awesome. I know the 2 piece look is divisive to some, but if you have followed JM for a awhile, it actually fits him. It's just different. There is no strange "feel" difference between the 2 woods.
The close nature of the 6 strings is not anywhere near what I had on my old Ibanez Roadster II (80s, first 5 string Ibanez ever made, strings were VERY close, like a guitar). But, they are very close, making chords, multi-tones so easy to do. And...as I love...the neck is FAST. If you want some speed and want a 6 string, this is the one.
The unfinished back of the neck is satin smooth, unlike the painted Bongos. I have been lucky to only own unfinished neck Bongos. I have played a "normal one" and do not like the painted neck.
The tone is flat, as it should be. Adjusting my amplifier is what makes the tone on this bass. JM is a very technical guy, has a very particular sound he uses, and his amp is what handles it. When I say flat, I dont mean everything seems turned down. It sounds to me like everything is turned up in tone, then you pick where you want to set your sound.
The pickup click turn knob is great as you know exactly what sound you will get with a click, not a passive turn of the knob, having to stop somewhere ambiguous.
This IS the bass I was expecting from EBMM and this will not be leaving my hands for quite awhile. But enough of that.....here are the pics.

Splitting hairs, maybe. But I would like it more if it were organic instead of manufactured. I love the Roscoe and other basses I've seen with dark to lighter wood. But the bonded 2 piece, while it is nice looking, doesn't look natural. I "kinda" like it but I think I'd get tired of it. I'd rock it and end up selling it.
Cant say Im really into this particular concept of a bass guitar, but it is beautifully made. It looks like a piece of expensive modern furniture. (No, that is not supposed to be an insult or sarcasm.)
Glad to hear that you are back safe and still have a house. That bass looks absolutely beautiful. Would love to get my hands on one but I have a feeling that might not be too easy here in Canada. Maybe in a year or 2 when more of them are available on Reverb and other sites. I just picked up a Stingray today though so that will satisfy my EBMM craving for a little while.
