He said average salary, not minimum wage. There's a big difference.

smcd, I don't know your background, but I've noticed your posts regarding economics on other threads in the past. You have been correct in those threads, and you are correct in this one as well. If you ever get the itch, I think the TB community would benefit if you ever decided to explain basic economic principles. It would obviously be off topic, but you have a knack for explaining economic principles and concepts very succinctly. Even if you don't, I like reading your posts.

Sure, but to be clear, you know we're talking 1992 here?

Or are you disputing $48k as the average salary based on the current minimum wage? The vast, vast majority (95%) of people don't work minimum wage jobs, you know. Minimum wage is for kids and entry level positions. Minimum wage isn't meant to be a career.

I can feel a difference in American made instruments. I also think they typically age much better than Asian made models. For me, the difference is worth the price. Porsche could sell a lot more cars for $40,000 than they do at $100,000 but people keep paying the high prices. Those people think they're getting their moneys worth even at 3x the price of a perfectly usable vehicle.

I mean, I see some of the Indonesian SBMM versions going for what I paid for a new EBMM. I understand inflation, but double? Seems ridiculous to me. What do you say?

I bought a brand new American Jazz bass in 96 for $650.00. How much are those now -- even used? It's due to inflation.
