EBMM SR5 New Pickguard & Knobs Poll

In an effort to escape the wackiness of the daily drubbing of life I thought I'd have a little fun with how to dress my Tobacco Sunburst EBMM SR5. I also know how we all like the pretty pictures so I have included many of those as well for your entertainment and voting pleasure.

The first pic is the original setup with the Tort PG and black knobs.
The overall aesthetic is too heavy and dark for my liking.

So first replacement choice is a Genuine EBMM Antique White Pearloid
with either black or chrome knobs:

Second choice is a Chandler 3 ply Parchment color
with either black or chrome knobs:

Not much action on this poll, is there? My personal choice was to tell you to leave it alone, but then I saw that you feel it's too dark. Okay, the parchment/chrome was my second choice, so that's how I went with it.

P.s.: offtopic, personally I don't find the added j at the neck "right" on an instrument that already was complete as it was originally! I am the lucky owner of a 95 black beauty/maple neck/bwb pg maple neck!

I get where people would say to leave it as it was, but I totally understand what you mean by the dark vibe.
Pearl/Chrome is my vote.
I honestly like the chrome knobs on the tort as well, to brighten that up. And I personally hate black knobs on anything where the rest of the hardware is chrome UNLESS the PG is black. But that's just me rambling...

Pearl/chrome for me. I'm not into the tort and the black knobs just don't pop like the chromies.

Sorry about that!! I only know cos I got one when I changed my natural SR5 from black plate, knobs and switch cover to white pearloid with chrome - and white switch tip - when it was new!! It's very inexpensive (got it from EBMM).

If you look at pics of Tony Levin's famous peach SR5 he seems to have changed the plate to flat white but retaining the black bits!

An interesting point from the purists perspective. And I don't necessarily disagree. Because it's my first SR I liked the safety net of tonal options. I was not convinced that the single pickup could carry the load of the variety of sounds I like. I now know that it can. But that front pickup does add some very useful flavors though.

Really want to go lighter. It was already much too dark for my liking. I like the balance of a lighter pg.

Yeah. I thought the chrome knobs would be a no brainier form me but the black follow the contour on the body and burst perfectly. I am really starting to lean that way.

Yes!!! For sure; and absolutely enjoy it! My point is that while Dan Lakin took as a "master-reference", as a model, the Sting Ray to "improve it" and therefore he created its own "original" vision of the instrument, now it seems like Ernie Ball is some sort of... (don't take it wrong) forerunner to the Lak stuff, you see?

But on a "technical" side, the added pickup surely offers variety to the menu!!!

I did not know that history. Interesting. Imitation and flattery and such.

And, coming off a pair of DJ5's, that model had been on my radar before this one.
