EBMM StingRay Special Club

Unrelated to anything, I’ve gotten a lot of compliments/random positive feedback with the Cruz Teal Special.

At a jam last night the keyboard player (who had been gone for a few weeks prior when I brought it) stopped playing because he was “transfixed” by my bass. Later he came over to talk about it some more.

It has sparked a lot of other interest and conversations. My teacher really liked the color and my other session mates have admired the bass and roasted neck. It seems to make people happy.

None of my other basses have sparked this much interest.

I like it too!

I have a Cruz Teal SR Special 5H and I get the same reactions as well. People dig it. :-)

Have posted this before but was practicing with it this evening getting ready for a gig this weekend and thinking about what a great bass this is. I know others have had issues and can sympathize but for me its been such a great bass straight out of the box. Got lucky with it being just about where I like the action, lowered it a bit and adjusted the intonation a little and was ready to play. Weighs about 8.25lbs and balances well.

So I got mine yesterday and am now officially requesting to join this Glorious club!! :D
played for a few minutes yesterday due to stupid work interfering!
She needs to settle in before doing anything, if at all.
She plays, balances and feels fabulous. Color is stunning (to me) and that neck is to .... for.

Really happy with the decision of getting the SRS 4HH, and not the 5. To me the Kiloton 5 is about the same class as the SRS5 H, and without the issue the SRS5's have with the G string.

Hey all, I'm seriously considering a Special 5H and the one point of concern is the B string feel. How does the Special stack up against other B strings? My basis for comparison is a Lakland 55-60, which I know is 35", for whatever that is worth. I prefer to keep the B string at .130 as well...I'm not a fan of the bridge cable feel up the neck.

Hmmm...the SR5s will use a .130 B as shipped and I find them to be great! I swap mine out for Elixirs in the same gauge as EBMM puts on them - .45 .65 .80 .100 .130 - and the Elixir B performs fantastic for me. I think the EBMM B strings are among the best of 34" scale basses.

With that, I have a Lakland DJ5 and also use an Elixir .130, just in extra long scale. I think the B on the Lakland is a bit tighter feeling, but I don't find it to be in bridge cable territory either.

Argh! I dropped my SRS4H at a Fourth of July gig. I set it on the back of a chair to sell a CD and then it promptly slid off and landed on my pedalboard. Doesn’t really affect the playability but I confess I’m annoyed. The fretboard had a ding in it too but I was able to swell it out with a wet rag and a hot iron. Didn’t work as well on the edge of the neck though. Being human can suck sometimes.

Well that’s it... my Special is now my only bass :) (I couldn’t count my Steinberger Spirit as it’s for work related hotel use only, at home it doesn’t ever get played...never!).

So, no P bass, no more J’s, no more Old Smoothie.... just a stunning HH Special. Life issues have forced this, but how can I justify another bass in the future when these HH’s can do so much?

Point is - in 27 years of playing I’ve never owned a single bass that I’d be satisfied to have as my sole Bass, until now ;)

First cut is the deepest... but it’s a tool, and it’ll get more no doubt.
Hope you feel better about it soon, I did after that happened to an old Mike Lull of mine... took a while though...!

Doh, that sucks!

FWIW, if the feel of it does end up bothering you, I'd bet someone experienced in guitar repair could fix that easily and quickly with some super glue.

Nice! I’m also so pleased with mine. They feel great to play and can do it all.

That's exactly why I never gig without a stand, and a flight case.

Hope it doesn't irk you for too long - I sometimes get mildly annoyed by a few dings on my Stingray, but given it's 32 years old and has had a lot of gigging, it's in remarkably good condition.

Ultimately, that's what adds up to "Mojo", and I doubt I'd ever have the instrument restored to original condition.

The journey to road-worn starts with a single ding.
