EBMM StingRay Special Club

So I have a stingray SLO that was my first "new" bass and my favorite for years. Played hundreds of shows with it. Anyway... haven't played it in the band in a long time as I fell in love with some others and my Special has become "the bass" for my band. But this week I brought it to practice and played it for the first half and kept thinking "why dont I play this more? This sounds great!".
We took a break and for the second half I used my Special. 30 seconds into the first song I thought "THIS is why!" The Special sounded sooooo much better and was easier to play all around. I'm totally sold.

I have to agree. I thought I was a jazz bass guy. Then I was at a music store checking out a Bergantino cabinet and randomly played a Special because the fender jazz they had was broken.
I was instantly in love. However, it’s one thing to play by yourself and another thing to play in the mix.
I bought a special HH and i haven’t been disappointed. it goes from slap tone to a beautiful bridge pickup solo tone. Sits great in a mix. I don’t even want to play the jazz anymore.
Don’t get me wrong I still like jazz Basses as they are great. (to be honest I have an appreciation for all Basses), but this Special HH is my #1. The tone,ebony fretboard, and 17.5 mm spacing are perfect for me. Music Man knocked this one out of the park IMO.

I have the same color. I think the dropped copper is one of the nicest colors they've done, I also love the charging green and was really torn between the two. I ended up with dropped copper bc it came up for sale first. I also have the rasberry short scale which makes me wish I had the charging green for a greater variety but I'm not complaining. They are both great basses. I prefer the special though it really is just a great bass.

I’m in. Traded my 20th anniversary for this Special. Weight was my main consideration as the 20th was just a bit much for me these days. The Special weighs in at 8.2 lbs, I could play it for hours with no issues. Just got it today and my initial impressions are very good. It does sound a little different, but it still sounds like a SR5 to me.
Yeah, I don’t doubt that people are really getting great tones out of their Special HH models. But, after my second HH SR5 (and two Bongos, an HH and an HS), I just find myself always gravitating to that bridge pickup. It just works for me so well that I don’t need or want anything else at this point.
I found myself playing with treble at 100% (fully boosted) mids at 100%, and lows between 60-75% (slightly boosted). It’s a loud instrumental rock trio. Wow does this guy sing!
Playing through an Orange Terror 500 with 2x12 cab setup.
I am used to the pickup position after 2 weeks of playing and it felt so good with the band. Happy.

I understand it completely. I had a Stingray HH and ended up doing the same thing most of the time. When I sold that off to fund the new Special I ended up with a single in the white and I'm in love with it.
I've had mine for just about 1 year now and the neck is mega stable --- they killed it with this bass.

I keep looking at that same exact V on Sweetwater — man is that a cool looking bass. GAS be gone...please?!? Haha!
Wish I could tell you it’s a terrible bass and don’t waste your time. But, honestly, I like it so much I’ve started eyeing my 2EQ Ray that weighs over 9.5 lbs., which isn’t really what I would call heavy, and wondering if I wouldn’t prefer one of the new 4-string Specials that may be a pound or more lighter. And I love the tone on my 2-band, but the Special is pretty close.
It's a special bass. I sold my precision and jazz and have ONE bass now.

I couldn’t have it done it with any of the other 100+ bases I’ve had! Haven’t bought a bass in over a year now, very much doubt I will next year too. Even though I’m a P Bass nut too, this bass has too much going for it for me to justify another bass..
