Personally, I think literally the only reason I would want a 2 band Special, is because I prefer to have the output jack on the control plate.
That, and the fact that with old Stingrays, I run the 2 band with everything up full - so the mid on the old 3 band is just in the way / redundant for me.
I think you absolutely nailed it with the Special - I have no angst for a 2 band.
That said, if you were to approach a future Special with a 2 band, in the same progressive way you approached the re-voiced 3 band - I'm certain there would be significant interest.
The only thing I would change / add is the option to use the 3 coil as a single like the Sabre model from a few years ago. I’m thinking about it.
Received my Natural SRS4H sometime in early March 2019. I still, even tonight at the jam, constantly keep getting positive comments on my tone. I've never received compliments like this on any bass of mine (and over the years I've had a few). Using a Markbass Mini CMD 121P and a New York 121 extension cab. I'm scared to change or mod anything on this Stingray Special. I won't even change the pickguard... LOL!
Heads up, a SS through a Mesa D-800 is a pretty magical combination. I always found that amp dull/blanketed with most of my other basses, but have always carried one as a backup. On an outdoor stage Saturday night, with a 215 behind me, and the Deep switch engaged, I had the richest killer tone I've ever had, and that mid punch the Ray has even dialed fully back T/M shines through in a very tastefull-sits-great-in-the-mix way. I generally prefer GK heads, but the Ray can be a little overbearing, depending on what you're after. I have to play some ballads/country/bluesier stuff where I can't dial the GK quite far enough back with this bass, though I prefer them for every other bass. The Mesa is juuuust right for this one though, and sounds good with my backup/downtuned bass.
I drank the kool-aid. First new bass I've had in years, and wow... so impressed by the play-ability and tone. Fit and finish is just awesome.
Yeah the charging green and roasted neck are just great looking together. I would have gone for that color choice if I had bought mine new. I got such a good deal on the dropped copper I couldn't turn it down.
Dropped copper looks killer as well. I was ready to order in Charging Green from the factory. Found this one here on TB from a private seller. Stoked to find the HH in the green. Got a pretty killer deal on an almost new bass.

Looks to be so. For a while, the natural was the most common one could find in stores and online. Maybe because they did not sell so well.
I was thinking maybe the Natural wasn't selling well. I haven't kept with the SR colors over every single year but it seems that EBMM offered natural on the SR almost every year. I like natural myself, especially over nicely matched grain but if it's not selling, it's not selling. I would think with the amount of natural type of finishes offered on other basses, people might be burned out.
Also with the new colors offered by EBMM, I can definitely see sales on the usual/traditional colors suffering.

It’d have been my second choice over the black one I bought.

I figured charging green or burnt apple would get the axe first. Natural is no where near my first choice, but I figured it was more popular than those two (which I do like).
