ebow + bass = this thread

i picked up an ebow today, here it is on bass..

i decided to play "lost keys" by tool off of their latest cd.

that wawawawawawa sound is just flanger with a high rate (supposed to be trememlo, but i dont own one)


i'm still fiddeling around with it, more clips will come later, if interested...

Ive played with one before. It was pretty cool. I plan on picking one up for my self sometime.

EBows are great. Most people don't put in the time needed to make them sound nice on a bass. The distortion an EBow can get is very cool, although lately I prefer to hold it pretty high up against the fingerboard to get a non-distorted sustain.

Yeah, but (as usual) a looper was used for the first part, then played the EBow over the looping part.

heh, i dont have a looper, but i can make small loops with my echo park (delay)

I meant there's a little extra half note at the end so the loop is not in time.

Hardest part about any sort of looping is getting it in time. Not easy. Have you played around with the harmonic mode of the EBow much yet? It's definitely interesting, as it will change octaves depending on where you hold it along the string.

i keep getting a high squeal out of it heh. havent had a long enough sit down with it to give it a full play around.

While in the harmonic mode, you can fret a note, keep it fretted, and change the pitch of sound being created by moving the EBow to different node locations along the string. Some of the high pitched parts in the sample I posted was me fretting the same note but moving the EBow along the string and the pitch was thrown up a octave.

I've had my Ebow for months and could never figure out what harmonic mode did.
