EBS Multidrive

I just tried out the EBS multidrive, the Frantone Lo-Tone, Woolymammoth, and Fulltone bassdrive on
Sunday. (All in one awesome effects store!) and I thought the EBS was way too refined. I could
hardly get any crunch out of it, it was more like a subtle overdrive. Didn't care for it. The Frantone
was very good, but I ended up going with the Fulltone. Great overdrive, and can get dirty.
The WoolyMammoth is just way out there and completely over the top!!!!

tell me about this store, it sounds great. i'm in los angeles and i really like www.truetonemusic.com in santa monica. they've got everything except for dredgetone and barber pedals.

what kind of bass where you using? did you mess around with the passive/active switch on the side of the ebs? with my passive jazz bass and the active switch pressed in, it almost acts like a clean boost rather than a distortion pedal.

The store I go to for effects is in the Boston Area.
Brockton MA, here is the website:

Their prices are hit or miss. Sometimes very low, sometimes, not. They will match prices though.
They carry a lot of vintage effects, plus all the Zvex, Fulltone, Frantone, EBS, etc.......too bad they don't have Dredgetone.

I play a Brian Moore I5 and I brought that down to use when I tried out the distortion pedals. I played
them through an EBS 2x10 combo amp. I use 10's at home, so I like to testdrive through them as well.
The I5 has actives. I didn't try a passive bass.

so my ebs multidrive is acting weird. the bypass switch does not seem to be working. this is the second multidrive that has died on me. the first one would die after playing it for a few minutes and go back to normal after giving it some rest. i thought the first pedal was a fluke, but now that this has happened to me a second time i am beginning to wonder maybe there is some truth to the rumor the questionable quality of these units. man, and i thought i had found "the one".

I received a FULLTONE BASSDRIVE from my girlfriend for my birthday. It's very nice but I'm not in love. I'll try to mess with it a few more times but I tried an EBS MULTIDRIVE at a store yesterday and I really dug that.

Both can get over the top distortion but I'm also looking for a slight break up such as the bass tone on Melissa Ethridge's Like the Way I Do. The EBS nailed that in a second and better than the Fulltone to my ears. I may exchange the FULLTONE for the EBS. We'll see.

Man, I am SO glad I have no need for a disto pedal. I'd be so confused I'd have to buy them all.

Been there, done that

The thing I didn't like about the MultiDrive was that the bass/dist blend knob is a trim pot inside the unit so you can't adjust it on the fly when going from mild to extreme od/dist settings. Not that the Fulltone has a blend, but it at least has a tone control.

I had the same problem with their UniChorus, to change the subject :)

Hmz, I don't see that trimpot as a problematic issue, I like the distortion and ovedrive of the EBS a lot. The sound delivers if you know what I mean. I had a ****ty DOD bass overdrive which sucked out much of the lowend, so now I love the low sound of the EBS. Sometimes it goes a little too low I think (with the neck PU on my bass)... a tone knob on the EBS would have been welcome then, but hey we all have tone knobs on our basses, don't we?! ;)

sorry to bump this 7+ yrs later, but what internal trimpot? nothing mentioned in the manual and i can't find any other mention of it on the interweb. i've got the back off and can't seem to get in without desoldering the passive/active button - anyone offer clarification on this? sounds cool
