EBS or Q-tron.....

Hey, i have been looking around for an envelope filter for a while now, and am currently torn between getting an Electro Harmonix Q-tron Envelope filter (or the mini version) or an EBS BassIQ Triple Envelope Filter Pedal.

Iv tried the EBS recently and it sounds great, but unfortunatly have found absolutly nowhere with the Q-tron (except for Ebay) so have not been able to have a go and thus decide between the two.

Any recommendations as to which to get? Im more of a Rock/Metal player, and heard about the EV origionaly from Tool/Audioslave songs. Also, are there any major differences between the Mini Q-tron and its bigger brother??

Best filter I've ever used doesn't do the massive sweeps of the Q-tron but that just means you can actually hear it in a mix and it's no where near as generic sounding as the EBS.

You can find clips and stuff if you search for it under it's old name of Tone Factor 442 Bass (Red)

The EBS and the Q Tron are both good filters in my book. There is a world of difference between the full Q Tron and the Micro version. The Micro is obviously a simpler pedal, but I also feel that it is more guitar oriented. It can get some cool sounds, but I wouldn't say that they are the same as the full Q Tron.

You can't go wrong with a Q-tron. I sold mine a few years ago and I have regretted that decision ever since. I sold it for purely financial reasons.

I got the Mutron III (old school version) vibe out of it all day long.

I don't know much about the EBS IQ other than I was not too impressed with the sound clips on their website. I'm into that greasy old school Bootsy Collins 70's sound that the Mutron IIIs used to provide. IME you get that sound and more out of the Q-tron and it makes sense since the same guy that built the Mutron III also co-engineered the Q-tron.

I don't know much about the Mini/Micro Q-trons but judging from the sound clips I've heard they're more geared for guitars than basses. IMO, you would be better off getting a regular Q-tron or Q-tron+ (this adds a response knob and an effects loop).

Ive got both the mini Q and EBS IQ and for me the EBS is better but mainly for its lack of instant volume boost like the mini gives and drier sounds.
The mini (cant think why they called it that) has a lot more sounds in it IMO but for me most of them weren't usable. I only need a bit of funk in my bass lines, not really any over the top wetness. plus its a lot smaller and so fits in my gig bag.
Not much help really.
