Get one quality bass instead of collecting a closet full. Get what you need instead of what you want.
Use sustainable woods instead of rare, endangered tropical woods.
Passive electronics eliminate battery waste.
Amplify with an efficient amp when playing live. A LM II is going to use much less electricity than an SVT. Just make sure that the cab will fit into the trunk of a Prius.
Lastly, use it so the environmental impact is offset by actual use instead of collecting dust.

i wonder how many mfgs. aren't harvesting from tree farms these days? certainly very few, if any, are cutting from protected old growth anymore, with all the restrictions in place, no?
i'd be interested in learning
One interesting thing that I heard was that companies are going back to the Amazon and cutting out the old stumps as "new" sources of Brazilian rosewood.
