Eden 300T why so cheap used?

I have no intention in buying a big wattage tube amp. I my self am a low wattage guy ;) But in my never ending search of new and old tube amps i often bump into Eden 300T amps.

I never see anyone say anything bad about them but they seem to only bring 5 or 6 hundred bucks used. I know it doesnt have the rep of the SVT but why so cheap compared to other big boy tube amps?

Just wondering????!!!!

Probably because it has the rat fur covering and when they introduced the cosmetically enhanced WTB300V they blew out the remaining stock of 300t's for $7-800 which probably lowered the percieved value ot the 300t.

The other thing is that it is light in weight, so it might not seem as solid as the others. I like the light weight. My other 300t, the Sunn one, is about twice as heavy, and I like the way it sounds better (I like a clean tubey tone), but I use the Eden more becuase it is easier to carry.

IMO it is very comparable to an SVT, but I am not an SVT fan so YMMV.

Hi.

I guess You mean E300T?

Rebranded Smarvo, also sold as Ashton in Australia and as Fame in Europe ( sadly discontinued over here though AFAIK).

Back in the day when I bought my Fame for 662€ the Eden's price tag was 1200€ IIRC. All that money for a different ( allthough better loking) head-case and about 5 different components in the tone stack. And for the EDEN badge of course ;).

Eden was caught with their pants down, they blatantly lied about it, and the reputation was shot. AFAIK some of 'em still insist that it's a Eden designed head.

The Smarvo and its rebrands, especially the Eden (because of the initial purchase price) are considered crap.

I say otherwise, and there was quite large "Smarvo" threads back in the day, and the Australians were happy with their purchases as well (Ashtons).

IME it's a good, solid and extremely affordable head, buy one if You get the chance.

Quite frankly though, unless the crap-o EH tubes have been swapped for something much better, I wouldn't pay a cent over $500 for a used one. The blow-out was $600 something IIRC. Over here the "hurt-treshold" is a bit more, as the supply of affordable tube amp deals isn't quite what it's over there in US.

IF You search for Fame, you'll find my threads about mine, do the same with Ashton, and you'll find plenty more.

Regards
Sam
