Eden are back!

Seems Gear4Music have finally done something worthwhile with the Eden brand. They've just come out with the new Novatone and Orbiter series:

They look very nice - I suspect the amp heads are basically the same as the previous Terra Nova range, but the cabs look cool - I like the docking slot for the heads, and the rounded edges remind me of the old first-generation Nemesis cabs. They are very inexpensive - makes me wonder where they've cut corners. Apparently they use Eminence speakers, so that's not it. Hopefully they haven't cheaped out on the electronics. Looking forward to trying them out and seeing if they live up to their (significant) legacy.

Gear4 makes me very nervous about legitimacy. Always impossibly low prices, swear I've seen others on Reddit etc claim it's a scam site, but could easily be wrong. I simply avoid anything that's that fresh a name with prices that low, but hey, could simply be the newest form of Alibaba...

They're legit, and have been going for a long time.

They're one of the few survivors of the UK's music store scene, along with Andertons and Guitar Guitar. We've lost GAK, BAX, DV247, Studiospares and several others this past year.

I've ordered at Gear4music many times, and there's nothing scammy about them. Things have always arrived as expected. One time I send back a Höfner CT Club bass, as I didn't really liked it too much (and the sunburst color was off from the pictures, which were Höfners own picture provided to Gear4music). They were very nice about that.

Gear4Music are most definitely NOT a scam site. They've been trading for at least 25 years. I've bought guitars from them in the past and have always been very pleased with their products, prices and delivery. Just because a company is unheard of in the States, it doesn't automatically make it a scam site. It's a big world out there, much bigger than just America.

Exactly. Like buying “acoustic” amps at GC. Made in China to look like the real thing. Hard pass here. Others’ mileage may vary.
Depends on what you consider to be "the real thing". If it's back in the Nordschow era, then that was quite some time ago now - first the Eden brand passed to Marshall, who did almost nothing with it. They wanted a separate brand for bass after their own range of bass amps failed to meet market expectations, so they just bought Eden, who were struggling at the time. That was where Nordschow's involvement ended. They kept the WT range going for a little while and repackaged the Nemesis heads as the Terra Nova range (keeping the Nemesis name for little practice amps), with a few corresponding cabs, but that was it. Then they passed it on to G4M, who also did nothing with it for years - this is the first time the range has been updated in a long time.

I think Nordschow shuttered DNA fairly recently (shame - great gear that most people never got the chance to try), so maybe he should offer his services to G4M to give these new Eden amps some "legitimacy"?

From what I understand, the circuits in the heads are the same basic David Nordschow design that was used in the Nemesis range, so his DNA (sorry) is in there, in the same way that all modern Fender bass amps have elements of Steve Rabe's work at SWR. Nothing like the Acoustic débacle - they shared a name badge with the old Acoustic Control Corporation stuff and nothing else and were otherwise just generic, boring bass amps.

I'm going to keep an open mind on this one and wait until I can try one out. Maybe they're great, maybe they're lipstick on a pig, but I'd like to be pleasantly surprised.

I have an Eden combo from the recent-ish Gear4/made in China era, and it's a decent amp. The tone and power are both good, build quality is fine (better than i've seen on some Fender amps), and while i don't have a lot of time on the classic Edens, it has a lot of the shaping and tone qualities that i've seen and played with from those earlier amps.

I'm selling that combo, but mainly because it's limited in using external cabs, and wanting a more modular rig. For what it is, it's a good option, and those new Eden design looks like a perfectly viable amp too.
