Eden Nemesis NC115

Hi all,
I have done a search on the above amp and not turned up that much, so I thought I'd throw a few questions to the floor here and see what you all think of it, because I have the opportunity to pick one up cheap (compared to local prices for similar amps). Trying before buying does not seem to be an option (online auction, tied up at work this week so can't go to the one store that may have one in stock).

So what do you all think of this amp?
I play in church, and occasionally other places, rock/pop/church music. I play an Ibanez ATK (poor man's stingray) fretted 5 string and fretless 4, and a Status-designed Washburn neck-thru 4. Fingerstyle, pick and slapping are all used. Mostly fingerstyle I guess. I don't usually use PA support at church, but it's not an issue with the church's amp which is a fender M-80 (which is pretty uninspiring). Solid state sound is fine, I occasionally use a Johnson J-station's SVT emulation for a bit of dirt...

I haven't played through that many rigs, but my favourites so far have been an old SWR Bass 350 redface thru Hartke 4x10, and an SWR workingman's 15, so I guess I like the SWR sound. How does the NC115 compare?

Let me know what you think of this amp please!
Steve

I acquired an NC-410 with the 200 W amp about 2 months ago, and have been using it regularly for club gigs. It is a very practical and powerful amp with good tone and not too much weight. Easy in / easy out. So far, I think its great. The 115 is going to be a little lighter, have a little less air movement, and a 15 type tone. It should be a good unit. However, I've never auditioned one, so can't help you with specifics.

The Nemesis should be a big step up from the Fender you're used to. I've played one and for the money it's a good amp. You should always try out whatever you plan to buy before deciding. Going on someone else's opinion is not a good idea. You're the one who has to live with it.

But the Nemesis has a lot of supporters, It has the advantage of being lighter than other combos in its price range.

I quite like my NC212, although I have only had it since this winter, and I'm not really experienced enough with other amps to properly pro/con it. The tone is nice, it can make almost any bass sound good, and the EQ and the enhance give you quite a lot of tonal variety. The compressor is pretty much useless, because I for some reason cant turn up the gain enough to get any use out of it without overworking the speakers. That would probably be different with the reduced wattage on the 115 or if you're using an extension cab. It gets around good, and its quite light. Probably my favourite piece of gear.

Thanks guys.
I may have a chance to try one out tomorrow, but I have no idea whether there will be one in stock at the one store I know carries Nemesis gear. To be honest, if it goes at near its current (no reserve) asking price, it's too good a deal to pass up. It will certainly be better than having no amp! I am sure that I would be able to sell it without losing much if I hate it (which is more than I can say for almost all gear purchases locally!).

The Fender occasionally bugs me but to be honest I played my fretless ATK 4 through it for the first time last night, and it sounded pretty darned good. But I am sure, (as you say) that the Nemesis will be a step up. And I'll be able to use it at home to practice (which I sorely need, especially on fretless).

I've not used a 115, but I've owned an NC210 for over eight years. I use it for over 90% of my gigs and its been the most reliable amp (combo or separates) I've used with never any need for service. I've auditioned other brands of small combos for comparison over the years, and the Nemesis does better justice to a low B-string and overall sound than most I've tried. I use it with URB, fretted and fretless BG in a number of different styles, depending on the gig. I've just been a happy camper with the 210 and I've never considered selling or trading it. I guess I should try an NC115 to know just what differences there may be. But I'd bet that the sound quality and reliability will be similar.

I hope your audition of the NC115 goes well.

Hey nonohmic, yeah, it's a pretty sweet looking deal, I just hope the other NZ talkbassers aren't watching it like I am! Hope you're enjoying your new amp.

And Lloyd, that's some pretty good endorsement. Reliability is one of my favourite things in gear. Good sound is too.
Have a good weekend, thanks for your help,
Steve

I recently purchased a new NC-210 to use at rehearsals and small gigs. I think for a small light combo it sounds great. I have only used it at rehearsals so far but I would be confident it would handle small to medium size rooms.

I've got the NC115 250 watt model and really like it. It seems that a lot of people prefer the 2x10 or 4x10 but I am really liking the 115. I haven't gigged with it yet but have jammed with it and it worked quite well
Nice clean, powerful sound. It is light and easy to move. If you get it, post how you like it.

I played through an NC115 today at a local store (couldn't believe they had one!). Compared it to the Yamaha BBT 1x15 combo, which was significantly more expensive and while the preamp models are cool, had a bit of a hiss from the tweeter and sounded significantly inferior to the nemesis to my ears.

The nemesis handled the low B better than the Yammie or my reference Fender, and just sounds really good! None of the stores I went to had the 2x10 model, so I couldn't try that out as a comparison, but the local supply of nemesis is pretty limited and second hand, decent sounding and decently priced second hand amps is very limited.

So I guess I'm gonna go for it... It's a nice, loud, light, low-B handling machine! My budget is limited, so if the price goes up too much in the next 2 hours, I may miss out, but I'll give it a try!

Well, I won the auction, so I'll have it in a few days and let you know what I think of it! :hyper:
Cost me $610 NZ = ~370 US. It's 6 months old, and supposedly pretty much mint condition. For around here, it's a spectacular deal (as long as what the seller advertised was true).

I'll review it when I've had it for a while :bassist:

Yeah man thats a sweet deal.

Trademe every now and then turns up a pearler.

Enjoy!!

It is a sweet, sweet deal!

The amp is absolutely mint. There is a little bit of scratching on a couple of the plastic corner retainers, which is probably the result of being in a car a couple of times. That is literally the only thing in any way cosmetically different from new. It looks like it's come direct from the box! The sound is great, with EQ flat and a little bit of the "enhance" control. It's light to carry and the low B is defined (in a 15" kinda way, but quite tight compared to the Fender). It's shake-the-foundations-of-my-flimsy-house loud, and sounds good loud or quiet. I bought it from an apartment-dweller, who has downscaled (in size) and upscaled (in price/quality) to a genuine Eden setup. Great guy, great amp, great price, great happiness. Can you tell I think I got a good deal? ;)

Trademe (NZ auction site, for non-NZ'ers who are reading) is often full of overpriced stuff, so you have to be choosy, but I can't complain at all:
MIK ATK 305 5 string NZ$400 with bag
2nd hand USA strat with duncans NZ$850
MIK ATK 300 4 string NZ $420 shipped with hard case, now defretted
Nemesis NC115 NZ$610
(1$ NZ current = about 61 cents US, and local prices for music gear tend to be about double what you pay in the US).

Oh yes, trademe's been good to me!

Hey Steve
Congrats on the new amp. Let us know when you get out with a band.

How accurate are the weight specs? According to Eden these are very lightweight. Are they fudging at all?
