I recently picked up a WTDI preamp pedal. I am currenly using it to drive a Fender Rumble 350 - taking the output of the pedal into the effects-loop return.
I am liking the sound of the pedal - it's somewhat a subtle change from the Rumble's tone stack - sounds to me more "transparent" - the bass sounds more clear - less nasally.
However ... when ever I try to slap a string (especially the "E" or "B") - there's a "pop" or quick crackle that appears at the start of the transient.
This happens on all 3 of my basses: an Ibanez SR500, an Ibanez GSR200 (w/Dimazio pickups), and a Dean 5-string fretless. Finger-style presents no problems what so ever with the WTDI. It's only if I slap a lower string (deep bass content) when this occurs.
All of my basses have active tone controls. I have the tone controls on the basses basicaly at the "zero" position - at the middle/indent position. Also have the tone settings of the WTDI all at "noon". If I raise the bass boost at all, the "popping" increases.
I've tried fussing with the compression and the enhance controls on the WTDI and that doesn't seem to affect the popping.
So, bottom line ... is anybody else having issues like this? Similar experiences?
best regards to the TB gang.
