Yes indeed, the Robertson shop can turn out some very pretty things! But still these are a swinging capo of a sort like I've been fussing with for years. I'm not satisfied. And that's what forums are for, right? Asking questions. Maybe I ought to post a new thread? Yeah, okay, I'll do that. This is an adjuster thread, and it's not polite to hijack a topic. Thanks for the input so far, and the kind welcome. Looks to be a fine place to spend some time.

Sorry for the apparent lag - I had to go out for a few hours, and posted what I wrote while out as soon as I got back.
So that's what you call a hazing? Bah. I'm used to 13-year-olds whose moms bought them new toys and they wanna show everyone how cool they are with warez 'n' $#¡T. Gimme that there ebonized paddle, I'll gi' ye a shellackin'!
Jeff; My clients keep telling me to look at your site and email you and stuff. Say we should talk. I read your manifesto a few months back, and gotta say I'm somewhat intimidated by your apparent 'purity'. But I suppose I am sort of in that vein, just feel that there's a place here and there for Hot Stuff, where greasy old ebony is concerned especially. Saved the day with a borrowed $100,000 Tourte bow with a cracked frog I'll tell ya ;) The lady was about peeing herself until I got it glued, and there's no way in heck hide glue would have made anything but a mess.
So, shall the knives come out now, or later? nyuk nyuk nyuk.

Yeah, I get the feeling the 'TB doesn't feel like home' thread has little to do with me. I like it already, though the overhead for mere dialup and IE 3.02 is a bit steep. Takes almost a minute a page! YIKES! But I's a dedicated PPC user, seldom straying to the land of the big screen, so slow loads are a way of life. Suits the quasi-Luddite in me.

Relax, dude! While it's true that your question is being almost universally ignored, keep in mind that it's being ignored by a bunch of guys who - in addition to being a bunch of the biggest DOOFI ever assembled online - represent one damn fine pool of collective luthiery. That ought to be worth something, right?

Back to the original question, my old American Standard had brass adjusters before Nick cut me a new bridge, and it was a CANON. God only knows if other adjusters would have changed the sound, but the brass didn't seem to hurt anything.

I'm not that pure. I use cyanoacrylates for many applications. It's just that in my experience i saw crazy glue and epoxy being used in heinous ways in the pursuit of greed and expediency. And because no one was watching. I use a phrase-the body proper. The scroll, the top, the ribs, the back. These should be immune from anything other than hide glue. Flooding worm holes in a Testore top with crazy glue is heinous. Gluing a Gand scroll graft on with epoxy is criminal. Closing cracks in a Grancino with cyanno is unconscienable[sp?]. I've seen it done daily. And done it[under orders].

Alternative glues definately have their place. I've no beef with gluing a shim under a nut with Hot Stuff. Or filling a divot on a cheap ass board with it and ebony dust. I will not think twice about gluing a thrice broken plywood scroll with epoxy.
My "manifesto" or rant as I like to call it has been questioned in intent by some. An attempt to raise myself up by dragging others down. Wha'evah! Mother Teresa's motives could be challenged. Bottom line is that anyone out there[and one in particular] poised with a bottle of CA glue over a bass is gonna think twice now.

Dang. I mean, sheep dip. Here I was thinking I'd fit right in, and along comes people telling me a) I gotta pay to make jokes (I'm perpetually broke, so that's gonna take a week or two, but I have this really nifty animated GIF avatar I use elsewhere - for FREE! - so I'd best do that), b) my CA activities are under careful scrutiny from the bass gods, and c), my attempts at sussing out miscommunications betwixt members are misguided and not funny at all. Dang. Time to re-apply the 'assume you're the dumbest-assed bass fixer in the room and say as little as you can get away with' stance. Think that'll work? I consider myself hazed now. Hint, hint.
I'll harrass you by email if I think there's cause Jeff, but for now this'll do. Got a plateful this week, with family stuff and bass stuff getting in eachother's way and computer stuff to boot. I know, get off the web and get busy building that bass........ yeah, it's a fine batch of wood. Reid Hudson's got nice stuff, and this has been 'stabilizing' in my shop long enough I suppose.
