Effects Loop vs. Direct

I have a Bergantino B Amp. The loop is pre-DSP. The only effect I use is a Markbass Compressore and I've tried putting it before the amp and in the effects loops. There is no perceptible difference to me. Which makes sense in an amp that has the loop prior to the tone shaping circuits.
 
The effects loop is in exactly the same place for the Series II Trace Elliots and all of the Ashdowns I mentioned.
Ah, interesting. Thanks for that. I guess now is where I admit my effects loop knowledge is more focused on guitar amps than bass amps. I think my original statement is true for guitar amps, but not that helpful on a bass forum.
The effects loop in most amps works at line level.
Lots of guitar amps have a switchable level. But I won't argue about bass amps...
