I use a compressor most ~

I like the compressor that was built into the old Trace Elliot bass heads and I right now I’m using a Boss GT-6B for the compressor until I find a little stomp box compressor that can sound like the old Trace Elliot or Boss Gt-6B compressor. Does anyone have a recommendation? Thanks

Because i'm a newbie, i don't have any pedals. But if i used a Boss guitar distortion with my bass, would it blow it out?
