EHX Holy Grail. Is this some sick joke?

I just got a used one and it's terrible. I have never been this dissatisfied with any purchase of any kind. It has a huge volume cut off all the time, and the effect doesn't even kick on until the knob is about 80% or 3 o'clock. Worst of all is the constant loud hiss. I play an '07 MIM Fender Jazz through a compressed SWR Super Redhead, and get a very nice clean tone, no hiss, hum, or feedback of any kind, and this pedal destroys my beautiful tone. Actually, worst of all would be the fact that I checked the reviews of this pedal and found that those three problems aren't isolated to my unit, they're normal for the HG apparently. This made me loose a lot of respect for EHX. How can they willingly put there name on something so sub-par. Well, I can't return it, so do any of ya'll know a good pedal, repairer I guess? Can this be repaired, and if so about how much would it cost?

Thanks, Derrick.

Yeah, second hand from eBay, person not a store, but it's the purchase and the product that's a rip off. Even if the person who sold it ripped me off, that doesn't change the fact that the product is crap. from what the reviews said, even if I bought it new from a store it could have been as bad or worse.

So.... you researched after you bought.
Yes, and no. I needed a reverb pedal, and EHX has always been great in my book, so after watching the demo videos on their website (there's my mistake), I got the HG. Then after it came in the mail and sucked I looked at the Harmony Central reviews on it, and found out it's normal for the pedal to suck.
