EHX Overlord. What is it?

Making some assumptions here, but generally an "FET" overdrive uses field effect transistors in an preamp-like circuit emulate amp overdrive. The Soul Food and a lot of other op-amp based overdrives amplify the signal and then have diodes 'clip' the signal. Not better or worse, just different. The Boss Blues Driver is an FET overdrive, so is the MXR EVH overdrive.

I haven't heard of this pedal before, but it's got some cool features for bass players, methinks the "input level" control will help this unit work well with ACTIVE basses.

The Electro-Harmonix Operation Overlord overdrive effects pedal originated from the idea of giving keys players a way to add great-sounding grit to their sounds. But the guitarists at EHX quickly realized that the Overlord's FET-based overdrive delivered the tube amp-like tone and feel that guitarists clamor for. So the company went about adding even more guitarist-friendly features, such as an independently footswitchable boot, a dry blend, and more. No matter how you intend to run your EHX Overlord, it's sure to deliver the warm and gritty tones you're after.
