tube zipper is a waste of money IMO. i had one and it did one cool thing. the rest of the "bells and whistles" were pretty shotty and the filter section wasn't that cool IMO either. I wouldn't waste your money getting one.

NOW, a vintage EHX Zipper (not tube), now that's a great pedal. probably one of my favorite envelope filters and it works great with bass.

i've used one before. and to sum it up simply - they don't work well on bass. it would sound great on a guitar or maybe keys, but it doesn't do well with low frequencies and i couldn't find a use for it.

I disagree completely! Admittedly, I got mine for 90 bucks, but its fusion of overdrive and autowah makes it a compact and versatile effect - it is often the only pedal I take to practice!

It isn't noisy at all (as one might expect), the preamp/drive section sounds great on its own, and the autowah.. there's just nothing like it. I found it pretty easy to dial in some very useable settings, from simple overdrive to faux-bassballs to talk-boxy touch wah to alien space warble.

I honestly got this expecting to use it a bit in my electronic project, but it has become standard for my rock-funk setup as well.

When I get setup for recording I will have to write a review. I can't believe this pedal isn't more popular!

i'm glad you're able to find some useful settings, i'd love to hear your clips. what kind of basses are you using? i was using passive fender basses, are you using active basses?

admittedly every pedal is not for every person and maybe i could revist it (and maybe i will after reading your response).

hey man, it could sound cool with your setup, i don't know what basses you use and stuff. i tried it at a vintage music store, and used passive fender's with it and was having trouble getting the sounds to be cool. so maybe try an active bass or something.

i'm interested to hear what you think.

This is RE: the Tube Zipper - I have no experience with the Y Triggered Filter.

mjb: I use passive basses almost exclusively, primarily a Fender Jazz and a Warwick Fortress Flashback.

It's certainly a pedal that takes some time playing around with, but the page-length diagram of settings that SOMETIMES comes with it is helpful.

It's obviously designed more for guitar but it IS an auto-wah, and the frequency knob isn't really optimized for guitar either- it's optimized for self-oscillation as far as I can tell!

I'll shut up about it in this thread... expect a fll thread with review and clips in... about a month (sorry)

First, thanks for that review! I'm an envelope junkie and decided that while it's a good sounding pedal, I don't think it's quite what I'm looking for.

Second, in that video, you say you're using an active jazz, but that's not a Fender active Jazz. From the video, I couldn't quite tell what bass that is, but the exotic wood top still looks pretty hot. Who made it? (gets ready to add yet another bass to the G.A.S. list... :rollno::D)
