Hi there, I saved a beat up westone spectrum at a thrift store the other day. Unfortunately the pickup likely failed. The output it very low. I replaced the pots and wiring instead of troubleshooting, but the output is still very low. By chance does anybody have a spare pickup they can sell me? Or know of an aftermarket that fits?

Well, a guy who professionally clears out houses after the owner has passed away, was selling some guitars online.
He was asking 75 Euros a pop, and so I went over and bought the Westone and the Marina strat.
Both instruments work when you plug them in but they both need a good thorough clean and set up. The Westone is a Spectrum DX of which the owner had an engraving kit and a little too much time on his hands.
Truth to be said, I LOVE what he did, it's just so ridiculous. Nothing says “I was made in 1985” than a Westone Spectrum and with this livery even more.

I have a bit of a thing for Westone instruments (mostly the Pantera guitars) but today I received my first Westone bass. Purchased for $344.28 from a Sam Ash listing on Reverb last Wednesday. I am familiar with the Westone Pantera X750 bass as I've run across a few but I was not aware a 5-string model existed in the Pantera bass line.
I've been in the market for a 5-string bass and this was by far the most appealing option I've found that didn't break the bank so I went ahead and bought it. I'm going to guess I did alright with this purchase as the only sold examples I could find online were really old and within the ballpark of what I paid.

Thanks, It usually looks better than this but I haven't had the time to set it up the way I originally intended.

My first real left handed guitar was a Westone Thunder 1A, which sounded really brilliant and I absolutely loved it.
Left my parents home at 19 and went back about 6 months later to find some old gear of mine to put in my music room.
Found that my guitar and a decent digital sampler were nowhere to be found. Even my mother sheepishly agreed that my brother had hocked it to fund his drug habit.
Still miss that guitar

Back in the day I had a fretless Thunder 1A with magnabass pickups, now I have acquired a fretted one. The pickup sounds really dull passive, though. I'm still working on the best set up. I had to replace all the grub screws in the nrudgevas they were rusted in. WD40 to the rescue...
It's too bad that I had to buy a guitar...

It most likely is an active bass w/EMG P-pu, so is it because it's a standard J bridge pu?
So here's something I never noticed before: It appears Trevor Rabin is playing a 12-string Westone in this Yes video from 1987. I think it's a Westone, anyway, the body sure looks like it but I can't make out any headstock details. Just thought this was interesting, since you don't see too many Westone instruments in the wild. You'd have thought I'd noticed this sooner, given that my Spectrum GT was only about a year and a half old at the time and I was into whatever Chris Squier was doing at the time and probably saw this video on MTV many times.
If memory serves, he had a signature model with Westone. I’ll see if I can find a link.

My first decent bass was just like your Electra Phoenix. I eventually sold it. Sometimes I think about getting another one.
I got that one on an after Christmas blowout at a mom and pop music store for $69! It had LaBella black tapewounds on it that cost that much.
Got this recently, lefty Westone don't come up very often in any model so I've had to give it a try. Wasn't expecting much but the pickup on this bass sounds great and believe or not there is no neck dive! Notice there is a gold tuner as the tuners are shot I have a set of Hipshot Ultralite tuners on the way for it.
Even less often if the model is a Raider, they were only built between 1982 - 1983.
