Electribe mk2

Have just been given one of these and tbh can't seem to get much more out of it than a glorified toy. Thought it might be cool for going down the squarepusher route . Does anyone know anything about these? Are they just preprogrammed sounds and loops and thats it.hot and hope for a good loop or can you actually use them live to enhance on the fly jams?
Should I just sell the beast while they are worth something ?

i have one of these and to be honest, we use it as a source beats bank and then we chop them up in an editing program, it's fun to practice with, but i like working with a pc for making beats and composing tracks, it has been pretty useful for my on again off again punk rock party cover project though i must admit, never used it at a rave, but that's when these things are really supposed to shine, the houston, texas indie band indian jewelry are an enthusiastic advocates of the electribe sampler and you can check out their noisy tracks for something to think about

which MK2 do you have? i loved my Electribe. i had one of the original Electribe's then picked up the second generation one.

whether they're useful or not is on you really. they have a lot of depth in the programming, a lot of ability to change up the sounds and come with some good sound banks that don't need a lot of tweaking to get useful stuff out of. but if you don't want to spend the time to learn it or aren't into hardware drum machine/tabletop synths then it's probably not for you.

Thankyou for the responses..

It's the ea-1 an doesn't do beats. I don't have the midi Cable either so can only use it as it came box ready. I just struggle to find my way through it and while some of the patterns are great I find that I can't alter loops while in them and if I was to use it live would end up stuck on the same groove or
Half an hour.
The main thing though is that the patterns aren't mine..unless I'm missin something then I can't see how to program and jam
Loops .
Maybe it's just the wrong bit of kit for
Me?

You can overwrite any of the patterns in there so there's a lot of scope for doing whatever you want. You can then order those patterns into songs however you want. You can easily find a manual online at the Korg site and that will show you exactly what you can do with what is really a very cool bit of kit.

yah. spend some time with the manual. "going down the Squarepusher route".... this is not the right piece of kit for you probably. it does some of the acid idm lines he uses, but when i think Tom Jenkinson i think stuttery Before It Was Called Dubstep stuttery beats and glitches.
