In places that look like there might be an electricity problem I always connect all the stage amps and if possible also the PA from a single outlet.
I confirm that there are places in which some amps hum and some don't. Happens so rarely I haven't yet looked for a solution however.

There are only a few places locally that aren’t properly grounded. It also seems like the single coil magnetic pickups on my Lakland 55-94’s are more susceptible to AC line noise than piezo pickups or condenser microphones ( Remic DB 5400 or DB 5400 LB. Funny thing, the Hum Balance and Line Reverse switch on my faithful Ampeg B-15N always seemed to solve or suppress line hum very effectively. Go figure.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions and info. I ended up using the two different amps for the two gigs, which is what I normally do. I had intended to swap them out and do some experimenting, but didn't have the opportunity as it turned out. The vocalist's PA did have some noise issues, which was interesting. My initial problem is still a mystery, but I guess I'll keep dealing with it as I have until now. At least I know it solves the immediate issue. We did mention it to the venue people, but I doubt anything will change.
