Calling all you other "self-contained rhythm section" types! I've currently got the Ion Rocker electronic drums (glorified rock band kit) but a friend hit one of the toms too hard so it's now dead, and in any case I was thinking about replacing them anyway. I'd like to get something slighter higher end, mostly for recording ideas so I don't forget.
My options are pretty wide open. I could mic my acoustic kit (won't be in an apartment much longer) but for late-night ideas or quieter jams, or to avoid bleeding onto other tracks, the electronic kit makes a lot of sense.

- The Alesis DM10 Studio kit for roughly $1k, which has somewhat mixed reviews (they seem to be all 5/5 or 1/5, no in-betweens)
- The Yamahas or Rolands at around $2k-$5k (and up depending on the bells and whistles)
- Cheap out entirely and just get a drum machine like the Alesis SR-16 ($150) or SR-18 ($250)
