Electronic medium for charts

A guitar player I used to work with used an Ipad... he had a mic stand attachment and it was pretty low profile. Just make sure the charts will fit on one page... he had to stop playing to scroll way too often.

I just got home from playing "Hairspray". I have my music scanned in PDF format and in "ForScore" on my iPad. I use a holder for my iPad on a mic stand and "AirTurn" foot pedal for page turning. It all works great. I don't need to deal with a music stand, stand light and I have my hands on the bass all the time. It's like any other kind of tool, you do have to do a little practicing with it to get comfortable, but its very easy.

This is the 3rd show I've done with the music on iPad and I don't think I'll go back to book and light. I also have all my etude books on the iPad, also a tuner, metronome and various synthesizers. During breaks in rehearsals I can read the New York Times, and check email. The iPad is one of the best tools I own.

I am going to have all my charts put on a flash drive. I had a laptop on a music stand that flopped over..too big and heavy. I like the I Pod idea...there are products to turn pages. Pricey. It will work well for the folks I am playing with as we will be able to share our recorded music along with chart files to practice as homework...etc..It's in the cards as funds become available.

I have an iPad and iRealB.

There are thousands of songs on their forums you can import into iRealB, you can write your own charts, you can buy charts.

I've attached a jpg of how that looks on a iPad screen.

iRig sells iPad holders for mic stands. If you're serious about getting rid of paper and clutter and organziing your music the iPad is the best invention of the last 50 years. There's not a paper chart out there that you can read in the dark, iPad yes! Clarity yes - retina display - nothing even comes close - for $600 it the best set of glasses I have.
