Double Bass Electronics going haywire on my ZETA

Despite swapping out batteries..my 18 volt system on my Zeta Educator sounds like my batteries are dead after 10 or 15 minutes of playtime...... i think my batteries are still brand new. Distorted sound leading to signal nearly disappearing altogether....... typical dying battery behavior. not sure what to do......

Do you have a small voltmeter to measure them?
(particularly when this happens?)

Sound like one of the capacitors may have shorted out.
