So I've had my SR400QM for a little over a week, and honestly it's the best bass I've personally owned (love the elixir strings, neck is super fast and skinny, the low action is great etc) BUT, I still cannot get the tone I want out of it - it's just a bit muddy/dull, no matter how much I tweak the 3 band EQ either on the bass or my amp (Peavey Max 112)
I know Ibanez have a reputation for some pretty average/cheap electronics, so I'm throwing it out there to you, what brands should I be looking at for upgrading? Also contemplating upgrading pups too, might do the whole thing in one go.
