Eliminating the foot pedal on Peavey Mark IV??

I never use the darn thing and it's just one more thing to carry around! Has anyone replaced the wiring connector with a 3 way toggle or something? On the other hand, should I just leave it unhooked and run both channels at the same time? Just trying to lighten the load a little.

Is this the old Mk IV with "Automix" and the big six band graphic EQ that takes up about half the amp's front? 210 WRMS @ 4 ohms, 300 WRMS @ 2 ohms? One channel has "para mid" control, the other is basic bass, mid, treble?

If so, you could probably replace the footswitch with the toggle. The switch selects either channel ("Select") or combines them both in parallel ("Automix"). Now if I recall correctly, if you don't plug the switch in, then you determine which channel you use by where you plug in the bass. There's the "Automix" input in the center, but by plugging into the other jacks you've already selected the channel you're using.

If your amp is the latter MK IV, I have no idea what the footswitch does and can't help you.

That's the one (with the Automix)! I am going directly into the high gain input in the center. I think the channel A and B inputs are for loops/effects. I think I will call Peavey and ask them how to use the Automix. I hate lugging around the foot pedal and would prefer to keep it original. Anybody know how the Automix works? All I want to do is set it and forget it. I don't get too crazy with effects. Thanks

I had a Mark IV for many years---it has only one input, and without the footswitch plugged in, both channels are on; the foot switch allows selecting or combining them.

You might have to fabricate a little panel to go over where the DIN plug for the Automix footswitch is to hold a toggle switch or whatever, but it should be a pretty simple matter to put in an on-on-on switch to do channel selection without the footswitch. But a switch there might stick out past the front of the amp.

I am pretty sure I have a schematic for a Mark IV around here somewhere---PM me if you need it.

If it were mine, I'd do what IvanMike suggests. Just plug in, and turn the gain all the way down on the channel you don't want. Or, mix them. I actually DID use my switch for a while. I set the "passive" channel (the one without the Para-Mid) with the pre-gain cranked and the post-gain down to get distortion for when we played "Break On Through", the only Doors song I've ever liked to play.
