Anybody knows who the bassist is on Ella Fitzgerald's Knock On Wood? The outro is crazy, never heard anything like it from that era. It's on the album Ella.

I would lay some money on Herbie Flowers being the bassist. He would go off on a lot of endings of songs in those days, check out some of his stuff with Al Kooper, sounds like his tone too.
Yes, Herbie Flowers is a very good guess. And that the recording was done in London increases the possibility. I've listened to Al Kooper's New York City (You're A Woman). There are three bass player credited, HF, Carole Kaye and Bob West. Herbie is playing on the first song, NYC, right? There is the same elastic tone and the extra fills at the end. And I'd say that Carole King plays on the second song, John The Baptist. BUT, the third player, Bob West, is also creditet on Ella Fitzgerald's 30 By Ella, made just the year before Ella. Coincidence?
