Elvis chillin with a bass

He's actually playing a Lakland. I know because I saw it on their website:

That pic has been posted here many times, but it never gets old.
That picture is actually the reason why I bought the one in the middle; Elvis looked so cool holding that white P that it pushed my G.A.S. so far over the top it became out of control and gave me no option, I had to get one. ;)

When you close the case (above pic), ALL those basses fit inside?

Amazing! :D

Not amazing really, they're cardboard. They fold in like those fancy birthday cards for kids.

I open it up next to my balsa wood and canvas faux rig at gigs, so people think I can actually play; you know, "wow, he's really good. Just look at all that high dollar gear" :smug:

That's kinda like saying Leo didn't invent the electric bass, but invented the electric bass as we know it.

Elvis is largely responsible for popularizing rock and Leo is largely responsible for popularizing the electric bass.

If you go down (or up?) to the EMP, you can see a 30s vintage Tutmark which seems a whole lot like the electic bass as we know it. Cool the the electric bass was invented in Seattle!

Don't recall where I heard it but one of the urban legends about Elvis and bass was that while recording an album, during a break, he picked up his bassist's bass and started messing around and someone looked him dead in the eye and said "You can't play that thing. You ain't black enough."

Who knows if it's true or not, but I love that one.

I wonder if they were referring to Bill Black?
