I've actually been thinking of joining the volunteer fire fighters. But I fear I'm too old for it (34).

Huh? I've served on the firelines many times with guys older than me who've done a great job. I'm in my 40's.

i was a volunteer at a fire dept. for a few years. glad i got certified, gives me a possibility of something to do after the army
