EMG 35TW or 35DC for Dean Metalman ML (One Pickup)

Hello,
I have Dean Metalman ML having one pickup and I wanna take a sound like Rex (Pantera, Down), Rob Trujilio (Metallica) and Bobzilla (Hellyeah). I added some sound samples below.. Which pickup helps me to take these sounds (sometimes more agressive and sometimes slow tones. but I need one pickup, not a combination)?

I think the "sweet spot" would be the best position for a DC as a single pickup. I've had a DC in the bridge position and it doesn't produce a very full sound--it'll cut through, but it's incredibly middy and harsh, with not enough low end as a single pickup (IMO, IME). When I have a DC in the bridge, I use it to add flavor to a neck pickup.

Gotta agree,

With the pickup that close to the bridge, I would avoid the DC's

I have DC's in my Spector and I love the tone with both pups blended, but my bridge pickup is also that close to the bridge and when soloed has very little bass.

You would be better off with the CS or CSTW (TW).

Firstly thanx for your replies..

Rob uses jazz pickups, and Rex uses EMG (DC's, IIRC). The DCs are hotter and a bit more aggressive, but if you don't have a preamp, you'll find a single one isn't very versatile. I'd go with the TW. You can use a push/pull volume to switch between the humbucker and the single-coil mode for tonal variety.

I use Zoom B1 effect pedal and boss me50B, not a specific preamp..

I think the best choise will be TW.

But can I get more aggressive sounds like in Crowbar bass tone ()

Lastly, where can I find sound samples for DC and TW?

Interesting thing is, the DC pickup was originally developed by EMG to *be* a "SweetSpot" pickups farther away from the bridge than your typical bridge pickup (IIRC for Modulus Basses), but somehow started to get used as a bridge pup (likely for the tone that a number of people, myself not being one of them, care for) and the rest is history. Now that EMG has developed a MusicMan-sized "dedicated" SweetSpot pup, I'm surprised they haven't reworked the DC-line to have a better balance of bass to it's high-mids and high-end, or at least come out with a variation of it...

I had a Spector ReBop with upgraded Active EMG pickups & preamp (not my pickups of choice, but it was only in my hands for a short amount of time) and it had the "Typical" DC/CS... but reversed, with the DC in the Neck position and the CS at the Bridge. This was a 100% improvement from the DC/DC or DC/CS setups as the "brighter" tonality of the DC pup got more bass in the neck position and the "warmer" CS was influenced by the naturally brighter bridge position.

I'd perhaps look into some non-EMG pickups, such as Nordstrand Big Singles or Big Splits - they have no problem putting their Bartolini-sized pickups into EMG-sized shells, or working with a customer on custom windings for exactly what they're looking for (as in my case).

Yeah, I currently have a P4 in the neck and a CS in the bridge. The bridge soloed is still not super full, but it does the "burpy" thing pretty well and is a lot warmer than the DC. The DC in the neck is still, IMO, way too bright and way too hot. I liked the tone I got with pressurewounds, but with regular rounds the DC in the neck is just too much for me. But the blended tone was amazing.
