So, I recently bought and installed the EMG GZR PJ set for an Ibanez TMB-100 along with a Seymour Duncan blackouts preamp, specifically the STC-2C-BO because I felt the stock electronics weren't really doing it for me and wanted to do something nice for what was my first electric bass without going out of my way to drill a new hole for a third pot. I knew that if I wanted to use the preamp with EMGs I'd have to snip the ends from the quick connect cables for the pickups so I wired those to a concentric 250k/250k pot and as far as I can tell everything works regarding the preamp and the P pickup but for some reason the J bridge pickup likes to act up by only outputing from the coils for the D and G string.
I checked my wiring and nothing seemed off or dull in regards to the lug where the pickup lead is wired and even tried unplugging and replugging the connector to the pickup. I flipped it around and plugged it back in to see if I had just plugged it in wrong and it seemed to work but when I turned the P pickup on the overall volume dropped so that wasn't it so it was back to the drawing board.
After some more fiddling I found that the pickup would function normally if I pressed it down it would freak out a bit cutting in and out until it suddenly starts to work as it should until I decide to stop playing it and set it aside. It's a little confusing as this is the first set of EMGs I've tried out and obviously I went out of my way to not use the included solderless pots to use my new preamp. All that to say I'm ready to assume it's user error/a mistake with my wiring before I go and call my specific unit defective because it works and sounds great when it wants to cooperate.
Any ideas or advice you guys could contribute would be very much appreciated, whether it's from anyone familiar with manually soldering EMG pickups or just someone far more knowledgeable with a soldering iron than I am.
