EMG PJ-X vs. EMG PJ

Well, I'm in the market for a new set of PJ pickups and am having trouble deciding between the new EMG PJ-X series or the regular PJ. I've tried the PJ and liked them, but havent tried the X series and am just wondering how they sound in comparison.

the X stuff is the way to go, especially for bass. it's the same pickup coils, just with a new, better preamp. (face it, EMG's preamps have been around for decades, and are getting long in the tooth.)

Ok, so, kind of like the traditional EMG active pickups sound?? Only, less compressed sounding?

that's exactly it. bolder, more natural-sounding.

The X pickups are alnico and the regular EMGs are ceramic.
They sound a little bit different IMO.

actually, no. there are alnico and ceramic versions of each; the magnet is not the defining difference between the two lines.
