EMG Strat pups in Bass VI?

I have a Squier Bass VI, and I love it, but I wouldn't mind getting just a bit more output from it. I was considering putting a set of EMG SA pickups in it, or maybe the Seymour Duncan Blackout Strat pickups. Measuring the existing Jaguar pickups, the EMGs should fit, but with a few mm gap around the pickguard route. Has anyone else done something like this? I think there should be space for the battery under the vibrato tailpiece, or maybe I'll route a battery compartment under the pickguard?

I think I would rather pull the pickguard to change a battery than to pull the tailpiece but I suppose that if you change strings frequently enough you could find a good time to change the battery at the same time and that would make it more palatable. Under the pickup switch plate which has only two screws would be another good option--if there is enough room.... Another option is to put the battery externally if you don't mind having a battery box on the floor. You still use a stereo jack but now you need a stereo cable too to feed the DC power from the battery box (or AC pedal board power supply, those work with this idea too) to the bass. I rather like the Jaguar pickups, I won't be changing mine.
