engagement bass?

So I turn to tb for their opinion.

Imagine if you will, a girl who decided that watches and other engagement gifts males typically get are lame and wanted to get her future husband a bass (we play together a lot, her on piano). She's been persistent about the subject and the bass would likely be customized a bit (maybe like an engraving on the neck plate if a bolt on, you get the idea)

soooo what would you choose? or do you think this is the silliest idea ever?

I'm actually subtly pushing for that idea with my fiancee. In my case it's an upton professor bass.

My girlfriend and I have talked about this, and she flat out admitted she planned on getting me a Warwick Streamer Stage II....but then I went and got one on my own, so now I have no clue what she'll get me once I pop the question! With any luck, she'll still get me the Stage II, except in 5-string (which is technically what she said she'd get). No need for customization though.

When I got engaged and we we're sending out the wedding invites we put down the usual "the bride is registered at such-and-such department store" for the china, linens, blenders, etc. Since I designed our invitations I put in a line that the groom was registered at Guitar Center. Before that I went to my local GC and asked if they could do that kind of thing (they set up an account in my name) and if it had ever been done before. It hadn't and they we're a bit taken back by it but did it anyway, and by the time of the wedding I had $1,200. in that account and bought a really nice instrument. Since I'm a creative in the ad world I proposed this to GC corp about doing this on a national scale but they declined. Seems like a no brainer to me, both the groom and GC benefit.

Take it from someone that marvels at females who just don't seem to get it. The 'lady' can ask him what he would appreciate most in terms of a gift bass. He would be wise to suggest one (or more) basses that are not out of reach, financially. She would be wise to take specific notes.

Warning to men considering marriage:
Usually in the case of a wife, she ignores what he is passionate about in terms of his "want's" and buys him items that are far from a great choice. As for why, it's usually because she doesn't pay attention. Since men are probably equally at fault on this, it makes marriage interesting, and not necessarily in a good way. Unfortunately, women otherwise justify their choices based on surprise factor, and this more often leads to disappointment. Ladies, we would rather be happy than surprised!

Me and my girlfriend are in the same band , she plays guitar I play bass and we plan on marriage at some point ( i realize we may break up and the world is not made of cotton candy) , anyways if we get married we both want to pick a used bass i really like that is a bit beat and a used guitar she likes in similar shape , good nice instruments just worn and get them custom painted in a one off shade.

I think a engagement bass is badass , do it

I never really thought of it, to be honest. I didn't know engagement gifts were customary for the men. Is there a price range that you're trying to stay within?



My girlfriend is about to start dental school and has told me that, if she makes enough money in the future, she'd love to buy me the 6-string Ritter Roya I've always wanted.

But that would be least 10 years away, what with paying off the quarter-million dollars in student loans.

Thats awesome! Id be stoked if my fiancee wanted to get me a new bass! The coolest thing she's gotten me in that regard is a Boss Chrosu pedal.

Ive beem putting the word out there that the next bass I get is going to be a stand-up. I think it'd be sweet if she got me one!
