Engineers & Gurus- I'm rewiring a 6x10, double check my math?

Better off just running the Svt at 8ohm. Quite possible on the 4ohm setting.
I've heard some people say a tube amp can handle 2x mismatch in that direction... I'd have to do some more research before I decided to do it long term. You're right, that might end up being a good option.

Or I might hate how it all sounds and put it back stock.
 
This project certainly has some opportunities for learning about acoustic design. When mixing speakers, in addition to impedance matching, there is much to be considered. Do they have the same efficiency, frequency response, etc.? Your 2 speakers that are alien to the others may be twice as loud, or half as loud as the others. Or require different internal volume, damping etc. Theil Small parameters for your drivers will tell you some valuable information, if available. Sounds like a fun project, good luck.

Ps the unscientific bit I was mentioning was your conclusion that what you had sounded good for bass therefore putting different speakers in would still sound good for bass. Testing and conclusions may be somewhat scientific (trial and error). What's wrong with comparing some on paper cabinet volumes?

The speakers are all CTS from 73-74, just voiced for different purposes. Construction is similar, obviously both alnico, magnets seem identical. Getting into the acoustic design of the enclosure is a little far down the rabbit hole for me. Rather just see which speaker combo sounds better in the enclosure I have in front of me.
 
Can you trust your ears?

Get a known recording setup, settings and distances and compare identical recordings through the rig before and after. If the speakers are that close there may be no perceived difference - but you can't do a quick swap to be sure and your mind may trick you into thinking that the bass speakers sound better.

Honestly I'm not going to consider any of that. The 8 ohm speakers will be more sensitive/efficient. The frequency ranges are different, might be complementary, might not. I'm not an acoustical engineer, so I don't think its worth worrying about. I have everything right here to listen to.

Without an engineer in the front seat that understands Ohms law, apparently you do.
A little less attitude when begging for help. Just ignore what you don't need, take what is helpful to you and move on.

It would be a good idea to double-check polarities of each driver. Back then it was not uncommon for different manufacturers to use reversed polarities. When combining such drivers randomly as you are, your results end up being surprising and usually damaging to the drivers.

And yes, I realize that this has nothing to do with Ohm's law.
 
OP, i know some of the responses you're getting may seem annoying or not directly related to the questions you're asking, but everyone here is just trying to help. There's a great amount of collective knowledge here from people that have been through it all before, or are employed at companies that do this kind of thing every day.

We're all trying to help prevent you from damaging your equipment, which is an extremely likely possibility. Choosing to disregard a post because it's throwing a wrench in your plan is just begging for trouble.

No one here is pointing out possible flaws in your plan just to whizz in your cornflakes. We're honestly trying to help you not destroy your vintage drivers.

So while the delivery can leave something to be desired, ignore advice at your own peril.

Sunn guitar cab. Assuming it is closed, since most of them are, there is no way you can get close to the internal volume you need for the CTS to work properly. Closed bass cabs have about twice the depth of guitar cabs.
If you push them drama will occur.

So we have a real answer from somebody who knows what you have. Ignored.

I am wondering how close to ideal the volume is if only the 4 drivers are used and the other two are closed off (holes patched).
 
Advice be damned! Grip it and rip it OP! Slap all those speakers into the cab and turn it to 11! In fact, light your hair on fire first! In fact, put the whole experiment on a flatbed trailer and give it a shot at 90 mph with your hair on fire! In fact, drink about two bottles of black label Jack, release 6 hungry tigers into the flatbed, and swing upside down from a matchstick and THEN turn it to 11.

I mean, I'm just telling you what you want to hear.

Following ohms law only so far as it partains to the load you will put on your amp is ridiculous. Ignoring the laws of physics (especially as they partain to bass frequencies) as well as how ohms law will affect the amount of current you are sending through each coil is a recipe for disaster.

I once had a cab builder tell me this (paraphrased of course.)

"This is way over simplified but.... If you get a really good guitar speaker you can hang it from four wires in a milk crate and it will sound great. With bad speakers for guitar, you can have a great cab and it won't help much. The opposite is true for bass. If you design the perfect cab around awful speakers, you can slap those awful speakers in it and it will sound pretty good. But you can put the best speakers in a poorly designed bass cab and it will still sound awful."

Physics. It's strong stuff. And what you are failing to see is that it is every bit as important as ohms law in this case. Never mind that the only half of the ohms law equation you have even bothered with is the potential load on the amp. You seem to not give a rat's you know what about what you are forcing through each driver itself.
