Its funny, the last gig we did, he had the whole thing set up and we didn't have time for a full check. I ask the band to run an instrumental number to check the mix and the balance out front as the guitars and bass support the room and the PA is drums, vocals, melodica and keys if needed. I didn't get a line check out of the hand drums, so we're up and running and I can't get him near loud enough without feedback. I keep telling him that I've got him cranked at my board, and he needs to give me more signal...which only leads to more feedback.

...So I take my bass off (riddim break in the song), walk over and look at what he's running. I go and grab a boom, a 57 and a cord and ask "which of these one or two drums do you want heard?" He replies "all of them." I say "That wasn't my question. Which one (or two if they're next to each other) do you want heard?!?" He points, I drop the 57 there, pull out the channel with his mixer send and for the rest of the night we have plenty of hand drums in the mix. He got compliments from the audience between sets. :D

He's ALWAYS complaining that people in the crowd can't hear him when we do our own sound...and I always tell him it's his setup not ours. He's a great guy but doesn't get 'tech' anything. He also thinks that the more dollars a mic is worth, the better it will be for his live sound...doesn't get that some mics should be left in the studio. "I don't get it...those are thousand dollar mics...Why can't I be heard on stage?"

And yes...I've used the 57 trick more than once.

Edited to point out that people here know me well enough to know that when it's time to play, I'm not dealing with a whole bunch of BS. The shortest most direct path to the solution is the one I'll take to get everyone back on track.

I have used modded amps, where the two inputs have been separated. I KNOW the technology exists to do this. And with the passive input bein universally panned both here and elsewhere (I know my friends also question the active input), well, I wanna know why an amp manufacturer hasn't done this. I teach out of my SWR amps. Two basses in, one speaker. I can hear em both. Tho not perfectly. I think that two switchable inputs should be included, certainly more useful than a padded input.

Yup. And that is why I cracked the joke about manufacturers rippin us off. And due to this reason? Think it'd be easier to market an A/B input, or switch, rather than a padded input. An so what if costs go up? They're goin up anyway. And we're still buyin in. Myself included. We all seem to be celebratin functional auxiliary inputs fer multi media devices, you sayin an aux input fer another, more practical, in my opinion, reason, an aux bass, is out of the question? Wit nearly all of us havin "backup" or "auxiliary" basses in tow? I do laugh, at what we buy into. What we accept as the norm. What you accept? Will continue. I laugh at myself, too. This isn't personal. Just an observation. That I think? Is funny. An Jimmy? You read far more emotion into what I wrote than I wrote my statement with. My blood pressure is fine. I am havin fun. I take this far less seriously than many do here. I been giggin nearly nightly fer over 30yrs. I promise. I AM havin fun with this. And with all the inventions and advancements, we both see today and wish for tomorrow, and wit nearly every bass guitar fine in the passive input, and cuz I feel with regard to marketing an onboard a/b switch would sell me on an amp far faster than havin an input essentially useless to me, I will ask for what I want. Why not? Many others here do same. The Bassbone is cool. But ridiculous overkill. I don't need all that. Just want a switch on my amp to utilize two inputs that are there already. It's a wish. Not a demand. And was humor. Not high blood pressure. Heh. I am sorry. Fer leavin wrong impression. And? In my opinion? Including a useless input on an amp, to me? Is a rip off. I am payin fer both inputs. I should be able to use em both. ;-)

Yes it is an expensive A/B box, but has one of the best DIs in the business, and you can plug 2 basses in active or passive, with their own gain controls and one side has EQ..Boost switch and pot and contouring.....Very handy professional tool for bass players....Even finicky sound guys are good with a Radial to boot.

The main reason I decided to get a Michael Pope MPP2 (got a great deal on one used) was to have two discrete channels for doubling. No switcher boxes, tuner out on the pre works for both basses and they sound pretty darn good. I see the value of two good inputs, personally :)

Wow..that's a cool looking piece of gear....supposed to sound great too......A mite pricey tho..lol

I once wrote Michael Pope with some questions. He said he was gonna stop making them because there was no profit in them, even selling for two grand! I found one used for a price I could not pass up :)
