envelope filter?

Listen to the samples... they explain themselves if you listen to the bass :D

Technically speaking, I'm not too familiar with how exactly they operate, but I definitely know a filter when I hear it!

(Tech-savvy people: You can chime in anytime now :p)

EDIT: Just realized not too many of those samples demonstrate it on bass. Umm... you get the idea, though, right? :hmm:

What do they do? They rule, that's what. :D

Very good explanation of the technical details in that manual right there.

One thing you should note though, is that the EHX Bassballs, although it is a filter, it sounds very different from everything else out there. Most envelope filters (at least as far as I know) basically make a wah sound when you strike a note, based on the attack of the note. The Bassballs has two filters, and makes a more vowelly type sound, almost like someone talking.

Hope that helps a bit, I'm not very technical but I love my Bassballs!
